The Great 2006 Sheriff’s Race in Schenectady County

There’s an ill wind blowing and its bringing a dark cloud over Schenectady County. It’s the Sheriff’s race. Buffardi vs. Moffett.

Buffardi has been the sheriff for eight years now and the only stain on his impeccable career is a jail escape. But oh, what an escape that was! It was written about in several blogs [a spidey tale at the Schenectady jail] and hashed over in forums [SchenectadyNY.info] and used as deep dark campaign material. Not to mention that Buffardi was nuts [and by the way] to let this guy hold a press conference!

So who do we think the people will choose? This is Schenectady! Where people don’t think like normal people. This is Schenectady! The third smallest county in the State (above NYC). This is Schenectady! Welfare capitol of New York State.

It’s anyone’s guess as to what’s going to happen. And it might not even happen for several weeks after the election. It’s highly probable that it won’t be known until after the absentee ballots are opened, argued over and counted.

That’s how Son of Sam made it into office. That’ll probably be how Buffardi will be re-elected. All those [dead voters] have to be counted.

As it turned out, the people re-elected Buffardi by more than two-to-one. We’re in worse trouble than I could have imagined.
